Welcome to Active Ageing NSW Inc

A community driven not-for-profit organisation that initiates, develops and promotes activities to assist seniors and those living with and alongside dementia to keep active and engaged, so they can continue to live their best lives.

Our Programs

Active Mindsteps

A program that aims to maintain cognitive function and physical ability for our seniors, aged 60 and above. Research indicates that the risk of cognitive and physical decline and social isolation in our senior years is very real. Active Mindsteps helps to reduce these risk factors using a variety of cognitive activities, as well as gentle physical exercises in a friendly and supportive group environment. And we have lots of fun along the way.

Alchemy Chorus South Coast

A Choir for people living with and alongside Dementia. The name ‘Alchemy’ represents the blending of various elements to make something valuable, which is the aim of our choir. We are an inclusive, performing choir and welcome those living with dementia who are still able to benefit from and contribute to practices and performances, and their care partners. There are no auditions, and every voice is valued.

Rock’n’Dance

Every 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month we get together from 2pm to 4pm at the Gerringong Town Hall to enjoy a bit of rock’n’roll, partner dances, some line dancing and a yummy afternoon tea. Our fully qualified Dance Coach Karen takes us through the steps and keeps us on our toes - sometimes literally.

A great way to stay fit - physically and cognitively - and meet up with current and future friends…

Dementia Inclusive Dancing

Once a month, we get together to dance with those who live with and alongside Dementia. We play music from the 40’s through to the 70’s and dance and sway to the rhythms of yesteryear. Our participants love to sing along and our volunteers love to see the sparkling eyes and smiling faces of our participants. A great way to be physically active, socialise with each other and enjoy a cuppa and some sweet treats.

Staying active is one of the most important things we can do to maintain our independence, health and overall wellbeing—especially as we age. Even just 30 minutes of cognitive activities and moderate physical exercises on most days can have significant benefits: improving neural pathways, balance, strength, and heart health, while also boosting mood, memory and social connection.

Our approach is built on evidence that regular activities reduces the risk of chronic conditions and cognitive decline. Whether it’s doing puzzles, crosswords, reading, walking, swimming, gardening, or stretching, incorporating cognitive and physical activity into daily life is a powerful way to stay connected, capable and confident.
